On Tuesday evening in London, Jack White performed Dolly Parton’s classic song ‘Jolene’ in honor of her life.
Dolly passed away earlier that day at the age of 80. White has long been an admirer of Dolly Parton and posted a tribute to her on Instagram which read “Instant sainthood” along with a photo of Dolly.
After opening his London set with his recent single “That’s How I’m Feeling,” followed by the White Stripes “Dead Leaves and the Dirty Ground,” White covered ‘Jolene’ for the first time in almost 20 years.
Dolly Parton released ‘Jolene’ in 1974 and it reach number 1 on the country charts and earned Parton 2 Grammy nominations. Jack White has long been a fan of Parton and even released a cover of the song as a B-side to the White Stripes single “Hello Operator.” Jack White hasn’t performed the song live since the White Stripes played at Madison Square Garden in 2007.
