Sublime With Rome, formed in 2009, will be breaking up at the close of 2024, marking the end of nearly two decades together. The announcement was made in a press release by singer Rome Ramirez, who expressed gratitude for the opportunities the band gave him and hinted at some exciting news he will reveal soon, per Consequence. Here was his full statement:
“After almost two remarkable decades, I am announcing my departure from Sublime with Rome at the close of 2024. The upcoming performances over the next year will allow us to reflect on countless incredible memories together!
Over the last 2 years I’ve been spending countless hours pouring my soul into my solo music, and the excitement to share these songs with you is building up! I’ve got some really big news that I can’t drop yet. Just wait!
Singing and playing guitar for this iconic band has been a lifetime opportunity and just flat out, absolutely epic. Carrying on the Sublime legacy has been a trust I’ll forever cherish.
This is only the beginning…”
In 2009, Ramirez teamed up with Bud Gaugh and Eric Wilson, original members of Sublime, forming Sublime With Rome. Their name is both a reference to the singer’s first name, and to the fact that they mainly perform songs by the original Sublime. Over the years, they released three original albums, starting with Yours Truly in 2011, followed by Sirens in 2015, and concluding with Blessings in 2019. Their latest EP Tangerine Skies was released just last month.
According to Consequence, amid the disbandment, there’s buzz that Wilson and Gaugh might team up with Jakob Nowell. The trio showcased their potential collaboration at a benefit for Bad Brains singer H.R. on December 11th. Kevin Ziner, manager of Sublime’s business assets hinted at the possibility, stating, “We’re patiently waiting and doing the right thing. If the vibe’s there, the vibe’s there.”
Throughout the band’s history, there have been several lineup changes – all drummer-based. In 2011, Gaugh left and was succeeded by Josh Freese, who, in turn, was later replaced by Carlos Verdugo in 2017. The latest shift introduced Joe Tomino as their newest drummer, taking Verdugo’s place. Now, the band is altogether officially coming to an end.
Despite the disbandment, Sublime With Rome intends to fulfill their 2024 concert commitments. The split marks the end of an era but opens the door to new opportunities for all of them, and we wish them all luck in the future!
