According to Billboard, BIllie Eilish has become the 20th artist to receive the BRIT Billion Award from the BPI, an award presented to individuals who have surpassed one billion career U.K. streams calculated by the Official Charts Company.
Eilish’s single “What Was I Made For?” from Barbie: The Album went No. 1 on the Official U.K. Singles Chart this week. Additionally, her Grammy-winning hit “Bad Guy” has over 300 million U.K. streams, while another six of her tracks have each secured 100 million U.K. streams.
The singer’s first album to go No. 1 in the U.K. was “No Time to Die” from the James Bond film also called No Time To Die. Also, her album, When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go?, topped the U.K. Albums Chart when she was just 17, making her the youngest female artist to do so.
For three consecutive years, Eilish won BRIT Awards, including being voted international female solo artist in 2020 and 2021, and international artist of the year in 2022. According to Billboard, just last week the singer became the youngest artist to headline at Reading and Leeds festivals.
The BRIT Billion Award was launched on May 4 and the initial wave of 13 recipients included names like ABBA, Coldplay, Mariah Carey, Whitney Houston, AJ Tracey, Headie One, Anne-Marie, Ellie Goulding, George Ezra, Lewis Capaldi, RAYE, Rita Ora, and Sam Smith.
Recent additions to the list of recipients include Olivia Rodrigo, who became the youngest recipient so far, along with talents like Lana Del Rey, Queen, Wizkid, Becky Hill, and James Arthur.
Billboard highlights that over 85% of U.K. ‘s recorded music consumption is taking place through streaming, and in 2022, the U.K. saw a record-breaking 160 billion audio streams.
