From Denver, Co., The Lumineers became one of the most popular folk-rock/Americana artists during the revival of those genres. Founding members Wesley Schultz and Jeremiah Fraites began writing and performing together in Ramsey, New Jersey, in 2005. in 2010 the band decided to add cellist and vocalist Neyla Pekarek. The Lumineers have become one of the top touring bands in the U.S., with 2 of their 4 albums reaching platinum status and 2 Grammy nominations.
Fun Fact: The band became The Lumineers after a band called Lumineers (a made-up word) was supposed to play at a club in Jersey City the week after Schultz and Fraites played there. The emcee mistakenly introduced Schultz and Fraites as The Lumineers, and the name stuck.
Some other band names they used in the past: Free Beer and Wesley Jeremiah.
